Bathroom Remodeling

We Honey Do remodels bathrooms across the Puget Sound region for homeowners and property managers. The work covers tub and shower replacement, tile and waterproofing, vanities, toilets, flooring, lighting and ventilation, from one update to a full gut. People call when a bathroom leaks, dates the house, or no longer suits who uses it. Send photos for a free estimate.

Bathroom Remodeling Contractors In Puget Sound Since 2007

Bathrooms get remodeled for two very different reasons, and they lead to different scopes. One is that the room is dated or no longer suits who uses it. The other is that something is failing behind the tile. We Honey Do establishes which of the two you have before pricing anything, because the second one is not optional work.

A bathroom concentrates more water, more waterproofing and more mechanical ventilation into less square footage than any other room in a house. When a shower pan, a membrane or a fan was done badly, the room looks fine for years and then does not. That is why loose tile, a soft spot in the floor, a stain on the ceiling below, or a persistent smell get inspected before they get quoted. Older homes also tend to have the original fan, or none at all, which is its own problem in a wet climate.

Note: Structural and load-bearing changes, including moving a wall to enlarge the room, need an engineer’s involvement before we finalize a price for them.

Fixture By Fixture

The estimate names each element separately, so a single fixture swap and a full gut are priced the same way. A bathroom can be one of these or all six.

Tub & Shower

Tub replacement, tub to walk-in shower conversion, shower pan and surround, glass and door, and the valve work behind the wall.

Tile and waterproofing

Wall and floor tile over a proper waterproofing system, with the substrate, membrane and slope handled before any tile goes on.

Vanity, sink and toilet

Vanity and countertop, sink and faucet, toilet replacement or relocation, and the supply and drain work each of those involves.

Flooring

Replacement flooring rated for a wet room, the transition at the door, and heated floor if it's requested.

Lighting and ventilation

Vanity and ceiling lighting, added circuits where required, and an exhaust fan sized to the room and ducted to the outside.

Accessibility and aging in place

Curbless or low-threshold entry, blocking for grab bars, comfort-height fixtures and a layout that works with a walker or a seat.

Installing New Bathrooms In Homes Built Prior To 1978

We Are EPA & HUD Certified Contractors, equipped to handle dealing with lead based paints. We're also bonded and insured.

Stripping a bathroom back to the studs disturbs painted surfaces, old plaster and old flooring all at once, and paint applied before 1978 can contain lead. We Honey Do is an EPA and HUD certified lead paint renovation contractor, which is the credential that governs how that demolition is contained, performed and cleaned up.

A bathroom is a small, enclosed room, which concentrates dust rather than dispersing it, and it usually sits right off a hallway or a bedroom. Containment, dust control at the source and verified cleanup are part of the scope rather than a change order. Tell the office the approximate year the home was built when you request the estimate, particularly if there are children in the house.

Remodeling A Bathroom In 9 Steps

A fixture swap uses a few of these. A full gut uses all nine. The approved estimate says which stages yours includes.
Timelines.  Stage 06 is the one that can change the estimate. Demolition is the first point at which anyone can see the condition of the substrate, the framing and the subfloor. If it is sound, the scope holds. If it is not, the office tells you what was found and what it costs before the crew continues.

Factors Affecting The Cost Of Upgrading Your Bathroom

A bathroom is priced from the fixture scope, the waterproofing system and the tile area, never a flat per-bathroom number. We Honey Do quotes from these factors, and the estimate is free with no obligation.
  1. 01
Room size, and whether it is a full, three-quarter or half bath
  2. 02
Tub replacement, like-for-like, or tub to walk-in shower conversion
  3. 03
Whether any fixture moves from its existing connection
  4. 04
Tile area, tile size and pattern complexity
  5. 05
Waterproofing system and shower pan type
  6. 06
    Vanity, countertop and fixture selections
  7. 07
    Ventilation work and added circuits
  8. 08
Flooring, and heated floor if included
  9. 09
Accessibility items such as blocking, curbless entry or a seat
  10. 10
Permits and the inspections they trigger
  11. 11
Lead-safe containment in a home built before 1978
  12. 12
What demolition uncovers behind the tile and under the floor

Bathroom Remodeling FAQs

It depends on the scope and on how much of it is behind the walls. A fixture and surface update is measured in days. A full gut runs longer, because waterproofing and tile each need time to cure before the next stage goes on, and rough-in inspection sits in the middle. The estimate gives an expected duration with the cure times and the inspection built in.

If plumbing or electrical is moving or being added, or if framing or ventilation changes, generally yes. A like-for-like fixture replacement on existing connections generally does not. Requirements vary by jurisdiction. We Honey Do pulls the permits for the work it performs, and the estimate names which ones your bathroom needs.

Yes. It is one of the most common requests, and it is a full-remodel scope rather than an update, because the pan, the waterproofing, the drain and usually the valve all change. Curbless or low-threshold entry can be scoped at the same time if accessibility is part of why you are doing it.

Demolition is the first point at which anyone can see it, so it is a known possibility rather than a surprise. The office tells you what was found, what it changes and what it costs before the crew continues.

Yes, and the system is named in the scope. Wet areas get a backer and a waterproofing system rated for them rather than tile set onto standard wallboard. The shower pan, the slope to the drain and the threshold are all set before any tile goes on, because none of them can be corrected afterwards.

Yes. Blocking behind the walls for grab bars, a curbless or low-threshold shower entry, comfort-height fixtures and a layout that works with a walker or a shower seat can all be scoped. The cheapest of these to do is the blocking, and it is worth including even if the grab bars go in years later.

Yes. Stripping a bathroom disturbs painted surfaces, old plaster and old flooring at once, in a small enclosed room, and pre-1978 paint can contain lead. We Honey Do is an EPA and HUD certified lead paint renovation contractor, so containment, work practices and cleanup are built into the scope. Tell the office the approximate build year when you request the estimate.
